Darryn Ansted

Australia, 1980

Darryn Ansted lives and works in Perth, Australia, where he is currently the Coordinator of Painting at the School of Design and Art at Curtin University. His connection with the AC4CA was formed in 2011, when he was invited to join the group. In 2019 Darryn left the group, the AC4CA thanks him for his contribution to the running of our organisation, notably as secretary for many years.

Ansted studied Fine Arts at the University of Western Australia, culminating in the completion of a PhD in 2010. He has participated in over 30 exhibitions in Australia, Europe, the United States and the Middle East. These include recent exhibitions at MOP in Sydney, at the Spinnerei in Leipzig, at Turner Galleries in Perth, and at Darat al-Funan in Amman, Jordan.

Ansted uses painting to investigate different kinds of space. This involves exploring flat spaces of abstraction and diagrammatic spaces of architectural projection, as well as spaces of illusion, shadow and memory. His interest in the investigation of significant places of dynamic historical and social shifts has fuelled movement between different cities to produce art projects, including Istanbul, Leipzig, Amman, Los Angeles and Melbourne.
